Startup Schwag

Check this out: Startup Schwag is a blog/subscription to receive all kinds of schwag from all kinds of start ups. Every month a new package is delivered to you, chock full of t-shirts. stickers, etc. Here’s the deal in their words:

Startup Schwag™ is a web2.0 startup schwag tshirt of the month club. It’s based on a simple, wonderful idea recently abandoned by RubyRed Labs in San Francisco: Valley Schwag. They shipped Silicon Valley schwag to subscribers every month. In April 2007, they stopped shwagging.

The April edition bag o’ schwag included Answers.com t-shirts! I’d love to know how many folks are now walking around with Answers.com: I’ve got all the answers t-shirts.

Word to your mother…

May 8th, 2008 . by Shara

Mothers DayIt’s almost Mother’s Day. Word.

I like Mother’s Day because I feel like mothers are those people we all take for granted. We all have one…some of us have lost one…some of us feel like we’re stuck with one. But we all came from a mother.

Let’s all take a moment and give thanks to the woman who gave birth to us. Here…I’ll start.

Thanks, Gloria. Thanks for giving birth to me! Since we live on different continents, am I still obligated to buy you a gift??

What are other people wondering? Well, someone asked “What can you give your wife on Mother’s Day if you are broke?” Luckily, folks came to the asker’s rescue. Picnics. Homemade cards. You know the drill.

And then someone else, maybe a little bitter, asked “If you don’t like your stepmother very much what should you give her for Mother’s Day?

Other folks are still waiting for answers. Can you help any of them out?

Word to your mother, people. Word. Go ask and answer questions about Mother’s Day now.

Who is who you are?

May 7th, 2008 . by Liz

Feeling introspective. To be or not to be? I think therefore I am… E=MC2. Or something. Roll out the WikiAnswers Wednesday question:

Who is who you are?

You are you; you is you? I am me. One has oneself as their own. You have you, me has me. You has me. You has me at hello. Can I has you? I can has cheezburger?

That’s proves what I already thought: Introspection is for people with too much time on their hands. Good day.

Introducing J and a little bit about WikiAnswers.

Grab some popcorn and ease back on that chair: We just posted the video below on YouTube to share with the masses. It’s “an entertaining overview of WikiAnswers, where people answer questions about things they know and ask about things they don’t.”

Why librarians are important.

May 4th, 2008 . by Liz

Elisabeth at Web 2.0 newbie diary lends her opinion on librarians participating on Q&A sites like WikiAnswers:

“I think it is very important that libraries get involved in answering questions, so that people remember that this is what we do. The difference in quality between the librarian’s answers and other answers was interesting.”

The WikiAnswers folks couldn’t agree more, as commented by Ksmail, one of WikiAnswers’ top Supervisors. WikiAnswers has become a top destination for the librarians participating in the Slam the Boards project. We hope librarians continue to contribute their knowledge and expertise to the fastest growing wiki Q&A site!
