Stop Cyberbullying in its Tracks
July 3rd, 2009 by MatthewOur tireless WIT coordinator, Neila222, has an exciting announcement this week:
WikiAnswers Influential Teens (WIT) is taking a stance against cyberbullying with a new anti-cyberbullying initiative. Cyberbullying occurs any time a person is harassed, threatened, embarrassed or willfully targeted by someone else through any type of electronic technology. It is just as dangerous as a physical schoolyard bullying, if not more so, because cyberbullying can have far-reaching and devastating consequences.Today’s teens have seen the effects of cyberbullying firsthand and are prepared to take a stand in keeping cyberbullies off of WikiAnswers. WIT members interested in joining the anti-cyberbullying initiative have been researching WikiAnswers to find instances of cyberbullying, and submitting them along with reasons why they believe cyberbullying is wrong. Since the anti-cyberbullying initiative was launched last week, 25 WIT teens so far have taken a stand against cyberbullying.
In addition to receiving an anti-cyberbullying badge on their bio pages, WIT teens are seizing this opportunity to take an active role in reporting cyberbullies on WikiAnswers so they can be removed from the site, along with any derogatory, harassing or insulting posts. This initiative is growing every day, with more WIT members joining the fight against cyberbullying, and striving to keep WikiAnswers a safe place for teens and adults.
To read more about WikiAnswers’ policy on cyberbullying, you can visit the WikiAnswers Help Center. To learn more about WIT, visit the WIT Home Page. If you are between the ages of 13 and 18, and are interested in becoming a WIT member and joining the fight against cyberbullying, send an email to joinWIT @ wikianswers.com (no spaces), and include your user name, date of birth, and tell us how you heard about WIT.
Thank you Neila and all the teens involved for their efforts to make WikiAnswers.com a safe and welcoming environment!

I have syberbullied… And I regret it. haha. Now i’m best friends with the person I thought i hated with all of my soul. Now, i’m not friends with the person i thought was my best friend. She was the one encouraging me to do it. Then i saw a thing about it in the news. I called my friend and told her she needed to stop. Now i am happy~
I was sybberbullied. Everyone hated me.
Sybberbulling is horrible.
This isnt even my email account im using, so i guess it could count as sbberbullying.
i feel reli bad and my life is over, mostly because of things like bebo, facebook, myspace, twitter and msn.

Cyberbulling has to stop. One of my best friends was cybebullied, and she almost killed herself. Thankfully, her mother found her before it was too late. We all need to stop trash talking people anonymously just because the Internet cannot show our faces.
If anyone was cyberbullied on WikiAnswers, please contact one of the community assistants that are often online. They can be found at the bottom of the community forum.
Cyberbullying has got to stop because more teens around the world are committing suicide/getting into depression because of it. I am a teen writer at RadicalParenting.com which is a parenting blog from the kid’s perspective there are 60 teen and tween writers run by teen author, Vanessa Van Petten. We just posted a video of cyberbullying here:

and would love for you to check it out and tell us what you think or repost if you like it,
Cheers, thanks for checking it out!

Cyberbullying is not good at all. We may think that we’re not hurting the person, but we usually are. Just because it’s over the internet doesn’t mean it’s okay. It’s not okay; Bullying is never okay! And we need to put a stop to people getting hurt.. Think about if it was your best friend or even your sister/brother that wanted to commit suicide (kill themsleves) because of cyberbullying or any bullying. Then you would want to stop it because you’d be really angry. So HELP!! You can put a stop to it. Every person can make a difference..
STOP BULLYING!! IT’S NOT NEEDED!!
thanks.
Cyberbullying is horrible. I think that everyone that does it is just unhappy with themselves. On WikiAnswers my username is SimQuest, and I’m a member of the WIT roadrunner team. I would like to contribute to help put an end to cyberbullying.
I’ve been cyberbullied. Bullying has torn me apart, both emotionally and physically. I watched in horror for years as it happened to a good friend of mine. I tried to help him, but he ended up taking his life. Thats why thay have a law now for bullying called Jeff’s Law. Jeff was one of my good friends, and what happened to him is more harsh and disturbing than anything else I have ever experienced or heard of.
Bullying is a way for people to make themselves feel better about themselves. Torment, harass, possible rape… All these things make the bully feel in control of the victim. These people have made their mind warped to that if they damage others, they will partially know their pain. The people whom they destroy everyday lose themselves and want to do the unthinkable to themselves. Bulling has been a world wide issue since the beginning of time, and only now has humanity realized it’s a huge problem. Even though we knew decades ago, NOW is the time for all victims alike to stand, hand-in-hand, and declare in one voice, “You will NOT bully me anymore! I’m DONE being your toy for amusement!” Once that happens, bullying has a 50/50 chance of going down into the shadows from whence it came. My fellow victims, let’s declare our independence from this monarchy called “BULLYING”, and put an end to it once and for all!!!! (Display name SangoandMiroku1991)
I was bullied in school, lo these many aeons ago; I haven’t been a teenager for at least 30 years. It has taken me decades to realize that, although the bullies do what they do out of a need to control and show how powerful they are, I am the one who has always had the real power and control — because I am the one who decides whether to allow the bullying to affect me in the way the bully wishes it to affect me. Yes, it is difficult to be the victim of any form of bullying. But the bully has no control of those who REFUSE to be controlled.
In the meantime, do everything you can to stop the bullying.Reach out to those you know to be victims of bullying, and help them to understand that it is THEY who are in control, to help them heal, to simply be their friend. Reach out to the bullies out there and help them to stop their bullying — and remember always to be kind whenever possible, even to the bullies.

This has happened to me before, too…and it is not fun. STOP IT IN ITS TRACKS!!
