Turkey, stuffing and… wiki?

November 27th, 2008 by Liz

Wait - are you located in the United States and contributing to WikiAnswers instead of eating a big meal consisting of poultry, watching football and hanging/fighting with family?

Wow. And here I thought I knew all the symptoms of being a Wikiholic… Must have missed one in the giant list that was compiled and posted in a new section of the site called: Wikiholics Anonymous.

It’s ok - this is a safe place. Just sit back, let go of the keyboard, and take this simple test to know if you’re a true Wikiholic.

  • Your friends and family try reaching you on your message board, rather than your cell phone.
  • You can offer way too much insight into a 16-year-old’s love life.
  • You give your kids trust points for good behavior.
  • You know Miley Cyrus’s favorite color, the cutest Jonas brother and Barack Obama’s middle name off the top of your head.
  • You’ve thought about improving people’s answers while having a conversation.
  • Little orange men have started to dance around in your dreams.
  • Your spouse claims to be a WikiWidow.

Check out the complete list. Are you showing signs of being a Wikiholic? There’s strength in numbers. Join the support group!

Onarollcarpet, the enabler, with reasons to get addicted.

July 8th, 2008 by Liz

Because yesterday’s interview with Onarollcarpet left you wanting more, here’s a note from the star Supervisor on the awesomosity of WikiAnswers:

When I think about WikiAnswers in a philosophical way, my brain hurts. It is like answering the question, “What is the largest number?

There is no answer, of course, because you can always add one. Is there a limit to the amount of questions that can be asked? People will be born, people will die, things will be invented and events will happen leading to more questions and answers to build and improve WikiAnswers.

That is why the concept of WikiAnswers is so amazing. It is a fluid database of knowledge that changes by the second from edits from real people who know something about something. Everybody knows a little bit about something that they want to share with others. Queen Elizabeth, onomatopoeia, dustless chalk, and bamboo flooring are all topics we can learn about on WikiAnswers. The knowledge we all have is being shared for free in a growing database that we can reference when we have a burning question that needs an answer.

How awesome is that? I forsee that WikiAnswers will save us from shelling out 20 bucks to learn how to sell on ebay and save us countless hours searching Google to find out if a crocodile can stick out its tongue. It will be a place to come to find out what the best website is to find cute kids cupcake ideas or to find out why your Ford Freestar is making a clicking noise.

I am so excited and proud to be a part of this exciting website as a Supervisor. It is a wonderful community of volunteers who cooperate and work together because they are passionate about sharing their knowledge with the world, like working with others as a community and… ok, maybe we are all just a little bit addicted to it too! But, when it comes to addictions, a WikiAnswers addiction is one of the better ones to have right?

If you don’t know about the website yet please stop by and answer or ask a question or make some spelling and grammar questions. Just remember that I warned you about the addiction potential. You might even want to eventually become a Supervisor.

If you do join the fastest growing website and community on the internet be sure to stop by my message board and say hi!

She must be butter, because she’s on a roll!

July 7th, 2008 by Liz

This week’s Contributor corner features Onarollcarpet, a stay-at-home-mother and joint-business owner who moonlights as a Senior Supervisor, Mentor and Category Supervisor… or is the other way around?

As a self-proclaimed addict, Onarollcarpet can be found spending countless hours splitting and merging, splitting and merging… She appreciates the fact that she can watch WikiAnswers grow daily and enjoys the company of the nice people she’s found along the way.

Find out a little more about this star contributor:

How did you originally hear about WikiAnswers?

I literally stumbled upon it with my StumbleUpon button.

What motivates you to volunteer your time to the WikiAnswers community?

What brought me here initially is the bad spelling, grammar and miscategorization.  What keeps me here is the bad spelling, grammar, miscategorization and the WikiAnswers Supervisors community!

What are your areas of expertise?

Flooring, pregnancy, food, Lupus.

What is your favorite WikiAnswers feature?

Batch Split. I love cleaning out misdirected questions and putting them where they belong. I get so excited seeing unique questions buried in the alternates that I can let free to be answered by the community. I feel like I am letting a wounded bird free to roam the open air.

What is the funniest question/funniest experience as a Supervisor on WikiAnswers?

My favorite question ever asked is How can I clean my room to surprise my mom when I am 11? It isn’t funny at all, it is just really cute and genuine. I was never like that when I was 11. I’m sure that mom will be very happy when all is said and done.

Share a random fact about yourself.

I love salsa.  It is an addiction. Fresh, jarred, any varietyn - bring it with chips and we have a party!  My dog is even named Salsa.
